How To Use Windows Notepad as a Professional Diary

Notepad is a text editor, which is commonly used for typing and editing text files. It only accepts characters. Unlike Word document, it is not possible to paste or view pictures in notepad. If you keep a professional diary or you want to start making one, you can use Notepad to keep an update of your day to day activities. Writing your professional diary in a regular notebook will require you to carry it along for updating anytime. You could also misplace it and others may be able to read your entries. If you bring a laptop with you, using the notepad will be very convenient since you can access this on your computer anytime. You can also set notepad to automatically enter the date and time so that you don’t have to type this every time you write an entry. Making use of notepad does not require advanced computer knowledge. The steps are very easy to follow so you can surely start writing your professional diary in no time.

Here are the steps on how to use notepad as a professional diary.

* Turn on your computer. After starting your computer, check if the date and time is set correctly. The date and time set on your computer will be the basis for the time stamp on your notepad diary. Check on both by looking at the lower right corner of your computer screen. If the date and time displayed are incorrect, double click on Time to open the date and time window. Change the setting to the appropriate one and click on Apply. Then click the OK button to close the window.
* Open Notepad. Now that your date and time are correct, click the Start button, select All Programs, choose Accessories, and click Notepad. The notepad window will open up. The cursor will blink on the first line of your notepad. Type .LOG on the first line and hit the Enter key on your keyboard. Click the File menu on the top part of the notepad window and click Save, then select where you want to save your notepad diary in the Save In box. Type the file name for your notepad diary on the File Name field and click the Save button. Choose a file name, which will remind you that this is your professional diary. This will help you to locate it easily when it needs updating.
* Start writing your entry. Close the notepad window once you have finished saving the file name for your diary. Go to the directory where you saved it and double click the file name for your notepad diary to open it. You can also right click on the file name and click Open. Once notepad is open, you will notice that the date and time will be automatically entered on the white space where you will write your entry. Type what you want to put on your professional notepad diary below the date, and don’t forget to click Save once done.


Every time you want to write an entry, open the notepad file for your professional diary and start typing below the current date. Always save your entry when you are done typing so you do not lose any important data.
