How To Split an MP3 into Smaller Pieces

MP3 is the shortened version of MPEG-I Audio Layer III. It is one of the most digitally-available formats, where music comes blasting out sounding as crystal clear as a CD recording. The only problem that you’ll encounter with an MP3 is the fact that it does take up a lot of space in your computer. If you happen to have a 30+ megabyte musical track on MP3 format that you wish to download to a CD or thumb drive, you can split or cut it into chunks or smaller pieces by using free software. Here how that’s done.

* You’ll need these. A computer/laptop, Internet connection, and freeware program designed for splitting files.
* Search for free tools online. The Internet is a goldmine of free stuff and when it comes to searching for tools that will help you accomplish this task, look no further than online resources that offer free software. One of the free tools that many swear by is called File Splitter. This is a freeware program that won’t require you to download anything. Aside from allowing you to break down large MP3 files into pieces, this freeware program also enables you to merge these pieces in one file and compress this file all at the same time! Try this one first before you take on another freeware program that does the same.
* Pick the MP3 file that you want to split. Do not worry about the file size because this program can handle it. Just pick any megabyte file and then proceed to the next step.
* Choose the latest File Splitter version. When you’re on that window, fill out the field opposite the text “Source File” and then click on “Browse.”
* Navigate to a destination folder. Pick the appropriate drive in your computer or laptop. The freeware program will immediately dump the pieces into that destination folder. It will only take you a few seconds to complete this step.
* Go through the “chunk” selection process. Fill out the field opposite the text “Size of a Chunk” by going through a drop-down menu. After choosing “Enter Custom Size” you are then directed to proceed and populate the field on “MyBytes.”
* Finalize the step by clicking on “Split.” This completes the steps necessary for splitting an MP3 into smaller pieces.
File Splitter has just done the job flawlessly and in record time for you! Now when you want to play these files, you simply have to access File Splitter again to rejoin these pieces into a single and compressed file that allows you to do so!
Here’s how that’s done!
o Open the File Splitter window. Pick from a set of chunks that need to be rejoined and compressed. You can perform this action by entering your choice on the field opposite the text marked “Source Chunk.” When that’s done, click on “Browse.” This is the primary action on the window.
o Pick a destination file that the program will automatically override. The field that you need to populate is the secondary action that will complete this process. Fill out the blank field or click on “Browse” to help you along the process of choosing a destination file and then finish up by clicking “Join.” That is all there is to it!

MP3 pieces a.k.a. chunks have now been merged into one single file. You’ll never have to deal with large files again, thanks to File Splitter!
