How To Use Yahoo Answers to Drive Traffic to Your eBay Store

Yahoo Answers is one of the most under-utilized venues for promoting links, but now savvy business people are taking advantage of this opportunity and are learning to use it to promote their businesses online. Yahoo Answers is a community-driven questions and answer site that allows individuals to post questions as well as answer them. With the thousands of viewers and hits that Yahoo Answers gets on a daily basis, you can take advantage of the traffic and direct Yahoo Answers users to your eBay store. Here’s how to drive traffic to your eBay store.

* EBay store. First register your business/store on eBay. Depending on the type of subscription you will avail from eBay, the basic fee ranges from $15.95 to $299.95 for monthly subscriptions. Upon confirmation of your application, you will get your own URL, which you can paste or link to sites. This will automatically direct buyers to your eBay store.

Fortunately for you, eBay has a tracking feature that indicates the number of views and visitors that your site gets. Use this feature to gauge the effectiveness of your post in Yahoo Answers.
* Get your own Yahoo account and ID. In order to participate in the Yahoo Answers community, you must first have a Yahoo ID or Yahoo account. If you don’t have a Yahoo ID yet, simply log on to the Yahoo home and register. You can fill up the online form in less than five minutes and have a working Yahoo account in less than ten. Once you have an account you can avail of the free Yahoo Answers service.
* Finding the answer. Logging into Yahoo Answers, you will notice on the menu bars that there is a tab labeled “Browse categories.” Choose from the different categories that your product/ site would fall under. Let us suppose you have an eBay store that sells makeup, makeup books and brushes. For your business, you may want to browse the topics under “Beauty and Style,” “Education and References,” and “Local Businesses.” Check out the questions that have been posted. To help further expand your search, you may use the search engine available on the Yahoo Answers homepage. The search engine can help you sort out questions according to the “most popular”,” “the newest,” and with the “fewest answers.”

Click on the question that relates to your product and eBay store. For example, you may want to respond to the question “Where can I buy cheap synthetic hair brushes?” If you think the asker and its respondents may find your site highly relevant and helpful, respond to the answer by clicking on the “Answer question” button. Reply to the question with a short answer and include the link to your site. All viewers of that question may then be able to click on your link and proceed to your site.

Choose the questions that you respond to wisely. If your link is deemed irrelevant, it may be marked as spam and users may “report abuse.” In extreme circumstances, you may even be blocked from using Yahoo Answers.

In Yahoo Answers, respondents have the ability to rate the answer as good, increasing your answer’s popularity in the Yahoo Answers community. Good responses will also help increase the traffic to your site.

* Post your own question. If you would like to create your own buzz, you may do so by posting your own question on Yahoo Answers. At the upper corner tab of Yahoo Answers is a text box where you can input your question. You can set up your own “promotion scheme” by answering your own question.

In Yahoo Answers, there are no parameters in the type of questions you can ask. Yahoo Answers are open to responses up to four days, but you can close the forum/site after a minimum of four hours.

Watch the numbers rise and the dollars roll into your online business. Good luck!
