How To Sync iCal with Google Calendar

Google Calendar is an easy to use and powerful online calendar that can send you alerts via your mobile phone. It can help you synchronize your calendar not only with yourself but with other people who use Google Calendar as well. Google Calendar, however, is an online application that you cannot use when you are no longer connected to the web. If you want to have access to your Google Calendar, try syncing it to your iCal.

* Share your Google Calendar. Start by sharing your Google Calendar. You can easily do this by singing in to your account, and then selecting the calendar that you want to share on the left panel. Once you have found the calendar that you want to share, click on the Share this Calendar button. Once you have done this, you will be able to determine the private address for your calendar. The private address is the URL that you can use to access your calendar. Copy this so that you can transfer it to the iCal.
* Launch your iCal application. Now, you will need to open up iCal in your Mac computer. With iCal opened up, you will need to click on the Subscribe button on your iCal. Make sure that you choose Calendar as the item that you subscribe to. Once you have done this, you can simply copy the private address or URL that Google Calendar has given you.
* Subscribe to the application. After copying and pasting the private address into iCal, you should be able to see the calendar in your iCal. You can then determine other features such as how often you want to update the calendar. If you use Google Calendar often and if you add new dates and appointments several times in a day, you might want iCal to connect to the internet and automatically be updated every couple of hours.

* Edit your calendar settings. There are other calendar settings that you can edit, such as the settings for the alarm and the attachments. If you edit the alarm settings, you can choose to remove any alarms that apply in Google Calendars. You can also choose to retain the alarms so that you will be notified even if you are only using iCal and not Google Calendar. The attachment options allow you to choose whether files that are linked to your Google Calendar will be shown in iCal or not. Google Calendar also has a to-do list that is found on the right side of the Google Calendar. You can choose to display this, or not.

Keep in mind, however, that the version of Google Calendar in your iCal is not the updated version. If you want to make any real changes to your Google Calendar, you will need to do it through Google Calendar itself. You cannot make changes in iCal since iCal will not transmit any changes that you made to Google Calendar. With these in mind, you should be able to make your Google Calendar sync with iCal.
