How To Update Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is one of the few open source web browsers that have completely turned the tide against Microsoft dominating the web browsing arena. It is free to use and can be downloaded hassle free at the official Mozilla website. As of today, more and more people are switching to Firefox simply because it is easier to use, faster, and is more secure. This has brought down the market share of Internet Explorer to a more competitive level. This has also opened the door for other browsers such as Chrome, Opera, and Safari to infiltrate the market and grab their own piece of the pie.

Now, while Mozilla Firefox may seem faster, easier to use, and more secure than its rivals, it does need regular maintenance. This is due to the fact that more and more malicious organizations and individuals study the inner weaknesses of such a browser. Hence, malicious applications may corrupt the browser and expose your system to threats. Installing an effective antivirus program that works with Firefox is a good start however; it will not be enough to protect you completely. This is where updating Firefox regularly becomes extremely essential. Not only will the updates improve browsing speeds and overall performance, it will also protect your system from some of the most dangerous digital threats out there. If you are clueless on how to update Mozilla Firefox, know that it is easy and can be automated. Here is how.

* Run Firefox. In order to update Firefox, it has to be up and running. Technically, by default, Mozilla Firefox is set to update automatically for as long as the PC is connected to the Internet and it is running. However, there are cases where the defaults are different. So, taking that as the case, you will have to configure Firefox to update automatically. And, it starts by running the browser. Make sure that your PC is connected to the Internet.
* Configure Firefox. To configure and set Firefox to update automatically, you will want to click on Tools located at the top menu. From there, select Advanced and a new window should open up. Select the Update tab on the new window and a list of options will be displayed. It is now up to you to select whatever you prefer. In this case, you will definitely want to automate updating so check the box that corresponds to it. Firefox will also have some plugins installed. It is important that you update these as well. It can be automated through the enabling of the options about updating plugins. When you are done configuring Firefox, confirm the changes by hitting the OK button. At this point, Firefox will start a search for relevant updates. If it finds any, it will download and install it. In addition, Firefox will always automatically conduct an update query every time it is launched. This will make the entire process hands free so to speak.

In most cases, once an update has been installed, Firefox will prompt you to either restart the browser or reboot the system. Following the prompt is the only way for the updates to take effect.
