How To See How Fast your Internet is

When you subscribe to an Internet service, you want to choose a provider that will give you the highest or fastest broadband speed available for the Internet plan. However, the Internet speed that is quoted on the plan may or may not be the actual Internet speed that you will get every time you connect to the Internet. This is because the speed is dependent on several factors. Although you may not be able to actually get the maximum speed that the Internet service will provide, it is still a good option to check the speed of your Internet connection is to check what factors affect its speed, identify the peak hours when the connection is at its fastest and generally check if the Internet service provider is actually giving you the Internet speed that they have quoted. Here are some ways to check your Internet connection speed.

* You need an Internet speed tester to be able to determine exactly the speed of your Internet connection at any given time. The web has a list of different sites where you can perform the speed test for free. Speed testing measures the time it takes for your connection to upload and download. Some services will allow you to compare your connection with other standards while some will allow you to make the tests using different speed testing origin sites.
* Quit all the programs that you have running on your computer before you begin the speed testing. Launch your browser and select one of the speed testing services on the web. The only tab open on your browser should be the one for the speed testing site. Close all the other tabs as this will interfere and affect the speed test.
* Follow the prompts that will be given to you on how to use a particular speed testing application. Wait for the process to read your Internet speed. After the testing you will be able to know the speed for upload and download through your Internet connection. Some services will check how your connection compares against other standards.
* If you think that you are being short-changed by the Internet service provider due to slow connection, it can be a wise choice to check your Internet speed at different times of the day for at least a week or two and save a copy of each speed test so that you can attach these to your letter of complaint to the service provider.

Nowadays, Internet connection is all about speed as more users want to exchange information over the Internet as fast as possible. Faster connection speeds allow users to download and upload images, videos, audios and documents in the least time possible, making the Internet the fastest way to deliver data. Quick transfer of multimedia content and communication are two of top priority features that Internet users look for when they subscribe to an Internet service. You have to note though that Internet speed is variable and there are several factors that can affect it, so you have to check the speed at different hours of the day before complaining to your Internet service provider. When there is a glitch and somehow you find that your speed is slowing down, check your system and connections first and call the provider’s technical support so that they can determine what is wrong with the connection and instruct you on how to make changes to your connection.
