How To Uninstall McAfee SpamKiller

In this case, spam does not refer to the popular processed canned good. It actually refers to emails that proliferate around the Internet through email. Spam emails are actual correspondences that most users do not subscribe to. Some of these emails can be marketing strategies by certain companies trying to gain potential customers by illegal means while some are emails packed with malicious content such as viruses, Trojans, and other applications meant to destroy your system or steal information from the users. In order to protect a user from these kinds of emails, a certain wall must be erected that will serve to block any unsolicited email.

McAfee’s SpamKiller is one wall that you have most likely erected protecting your email from the threats lurking around on the net. However, in some cases, you may opt to work with a totally different spam protection application, which you may find more effective and more convenient. If that is the case, you will want to uninstall SpamKiller. The problem is that you may want to uninstall it but leave the other McAfee products, the ones included in the suite of applications you installed, alone. Here are some of the things you can do to accomplish that.

* Use McAfee’s uninstallation wizard. The easiest way to uninstall SpamKiller is by using McAfee’s built-in uninstallation wizard. Yes, most programs, including McAfee, are integrated with an uninstallation function that provides a user an easy way to remove any particular program. For McAfee, you can locate the wizard by simply clicking on the “Start” menu found in the left bottom corner. Type the uninstallation tool that McAfee uses on the menu search bar (for XP users, you can use the Run function). The uninstallation tool is “appwiz.cpl” so, that is what you should type. It should automatically come out on the search window. Hit the “Enter” button on your keyboard and the wizard should start running.
An alternative way to bring up the wizard would be to search for the McAfee suite folder located in Programs inside the Start Menu. Upon opening that folder, you should find the option to uninstall McAfee along with its components and the wizard should start right off.
Finally, the third way to bring up the uninstallation wizard is by opening up the Control Panel then select “Uninstall a Program” (for Vista and 7) or “Add or Remove programs” (for XP). This will bring up a new window with all the currently installed applications displayed. Select McAfee from the list and the uninstallation wizard should begin.
* Follow the prompts. As soon as the wizard starts up, the process should be easy as pie. All you will have to do is check the box corresponding to SpamKiller and proceed until the wizard starts removing the particular component. You may consider removing other of McAfee’s components while you are at it as well. Once the uninstallation completes, reboot your PC to refresh your system without SpamKiller and whatever other components you may have uninstalled as well.
Be aware that once you uninstall SpamKiller, your email will not be protected at all. It is important to refrain from using your email application until you have installed some kind of spam protection. Now if you decide that this warning is not for you, then proceed at your own risk.
