How To Use Delicious.com (del.icio.us)

Delicious.com is the former del.i.cio.us. But although the name changed, Delicious is still the social bookmarking site that has been in existence since 2003. Millions of people from many parts of the world use Delicious. In fact, it is one of the most popular and commonly used bookmarking services. If you are not so familiar with Delicious, let this article teach you how it is used.

* Get an account. The nice thing about Delicious is that it can be used for free. All you have to do is create an account. Do this by going to the Register or Get Started section of the website. Supply all the needed information such as username, password, and email address. Then install the Delicious buttons into your browser by clicking the Install Extension Now. The buttons will appear in your browser toolbar, so any time you want to bookmark a page, you simply need to click the Delicious buttons.
* Tag a bookmark. Tagging is basically using a keyword or keyphrase to describe a link. For example, if you read an article about traveling in Spain, you can bookmark the link with the tags Spain travel, Spain backpacking, or European traveling. Use a variety of tags, but make sure to choose easy-to-remember tags, so you can easily find your bookmarks. Tags should foremost have something to do with the link. Otherwise, you are losing the purpose for tagging.
* Decide whether to make the bookmarks private. Bookmarks are by default made public. This is what makes Delicious a perfect avenue for sharing links with other Internet users. But if for some reason you don’t want to share your bookmarks, you can make them private. Do this by marking the “Do Not Share” box on the window that appears after clicking the Delicious button.
* Post the bookmarks on your personal website. You can share your bookmarks with your blog readers and followers with tagrolls and linkrolls. Tagrolls is a cluster of tags posted on a certain part of the site, while linkrolls is a group of links. With these features, your blog readers and followers can also check the links you have been visiting.
* Look for other Internet users’ bookmarks. This is useful if you are researching on a particular topic or if you simply are curious about what other Internet users are finding on the Internet. There are different ways to do this. One is by using tags. Type a keyword or keyphrase on the search bar of the website’s homepage. For example, type Narnia if you are looking for links about the movie Narnia. If you want to use a keyphrase, add a plus sign (+): Narnia+movie. You can also use the Hotlist, Popular, and Recent features, which allow you to find out the links that are currently being bookmarked, the most bookmarked links, and the just-bookmarked pages, respectively. These features are available on the website’s homepage.

Delicious is very easy to use. Once you are on the homepage, try to explore the features and hyperlinks to further have an idea how this bookmarking service works.
