How To Use Twitter with your Cell Phone

You don’t have to be stuck in front of your computer posting and reading tweets all day. Twitter understands that you are not always using a computer, so they made it possible for you to stay connected to your followers and those you follow via cell phone. This means that you can send and receive updates through text messaging. If you are new to Twitter, let’s discuss how you can use this feature.

* Access Twitter with your cell phone. This is assuming you have already signed up for a Twitter account. If not, Twitter will ask you to make an account. But if you have signed up, directly go to Twitter using your mobile phone. Access it by typing mobile.twitter.com in the browser of your phone.
* Activate the Twitter phone feature. First, get the short code from Twitter Help Center. Short code is a number with which you can access your account. In the US, the short code is 40404. Type START in your cell phone and send it to the short code. You will then be asked to provide your username and password. After this, you have to send the word OK. This will complete the activation process. When already activated, you can send tweets to the short code using your phone. The tweets will then appear on your profile. Remember, however, that you will be charged the standard text rate when you text your tweets and receive updates.
* Select the people you want to get updates from. It’s quite overwhelming and chaotic if you receive lots of tweets every time you access your account via cell phone, so it is logical to select only a few people from whom to receive updates. You can do this by sending the OFF command to the short code. Identify the people you don’t want to get updates from. Then type “OFF username” in your cell phone and text it to the short code. Alternatively, you can turn off all updates from everyone in your contact by typing the word “OFF.”

* Activate the sleep mode. If you don’t want to receive text updates every hour of everyday, you can turn the sleep mode on at a particular time, like when you are sleeping or when you are having a business meeting. Simply access the Sleep Settings in your Twitter profile and choose the hours you don’t intend to receive updates.
* Send a direct message. Just as you can direct a tweet to a person using your Twitter web profile, you can also direct a message to a person with your cell phone. Just use the command: @username + message. For example, @efgxyz It’s fun tweeting with my phone!
* Sign up for an unlimited texting plan. You will spend a lot of money if you will regularly use your cell phone to tweet, so it is wise to get an unlimited texting plan or any plan that will allow you to send lots of text messages for a minimum fee. Talk to your service provider about this.

Remember that tweeting via cell phone is just as addictive as tweeting via the Internet, so try to regulate your tweeting activities. If it is not absolutely important, don’t tweet with your cell phone.
