How To Use Yahoo Messenger on a PSP

The PlayStation Portable handheld console brought into the market by Sony – also known as the PSP - was the rave and one of the most requested gifts by children, teens and adults alike for Christmas the past year. (It followed a close fourth behind the highly chic iPad and iPhone). Though the PSP currently lags behind Nintendo DS, another hand held console marketed by Nintendo, the PSP still has a strong market among the youth – especially since launching its remodeled Slim&Lite Playstation Portable.

The PSP console became the rave in the early 2000s as it brought the gaming experience to an all new high. Apart from the light and slim packaging, the PSP has an impressive screen, which gives users vibrant visuals, better than what is experienced with Nintendo DS Games. The Sony PSP also has additional features such as built in Skype with microphone and improved AV output for video and game playback on TVs.

Aside from playing games on the lightweight and highly versatile PSP, one can while away time chatting with friends using Yahoo Messenger on your PSP. Here’s how to stay connected with friends and loved ones using the Yahoo Messenger on a PSP.

* Yahoo user. In order to be able to use Yahoo Messenger, you must first have a Yahoo account. You can register online at the Yahoo home website. Fill up the online form and within minutes you can access your new account. You may browse the official PSP-Messenger site online for updates and to get a brief overview on how PSP-Messenger works.
* PSP Set up. Setting up your PSP is fast and easy, but first make sure that your PSP has at least a 2.00+ system requirement. Also make sure that there is enough memory in your PSP’s memory stick to accommodate the PSP-Messenger file. If there is not enough memory, you may either buy and upgrade your memory stick or simply remove unnecessary files.

* Download. Download the PSP-Messenger first onto your computer. You may search for free downloads online. A safe site that you can check is Softpedia.com. Once the download is complete, unzip the folder.

Transfer the folder to your PSP’s memory stick folder by plugging in your PSP. Open the “Home” button on your PSP then proceed to the “Settings menu.” Choose the option to “Open folder to view files.” Look for the folder labeled “Common.”

Drag the PSP-Messenger folder on your computer desktop to the PSP Common folder. To access Yahoo messenger, open your PSP browser and type “File:/PSP/COMMON/PSPMSG/index.html”. Once the connection is complete, you may use your PSP to start chatting with friends. If any problems arise, you may log on to the Yahoo Help site or the forums.

Due to differences in PSP and computer requirements, the Yahoo messenger will not perform in exactly the same way as it would on the computer. For example, such features like the live video chatting or blocking cannot be done on PSP-Messenger. Apart from Yahoo messenger, you can also download applications to chat on AOL, Google chat and MSN messenger.

Bring gaming and connectivity wherever you go as well as remain in the know by staying connected with friends through the Yahoo messenger. Have fun!
